A beautiful bohemian retreat in Marseille

Hello! I feel like I've really been mixing up the styles (and locations) this week with home tours in Sweden and Australia and even some festive AW15 ideas. It's been fun - I hope it's felt inspiring to you too?! To keep up the spirit of the week I thought we'd go all out bohemian today with the fabulous 19th century French retreat of Emma Francis, owner of French fashion label Sessun.  Located in Marseille, the home has been decorated inside and out with items collected from all over the world including Laos, Japan, Morocco and Scandinavia. The rich browns, oranges and reds of handmade kilim textiles have been combined with the natural materials and fresh white walls, creating a lovely warm and relaxed vibe. And there's of course that view of the sea...

I wouldn't mind waking up to that view, how about you?! In fact, I get the sense that it would be hard to feel anything but relaxed here. Beautiful!

There are so many details and unusual items in this home, the more I look the more I find (look at those pendants over the outdoor table for example?!).

Quick guide: Source handmade kilim pillows / cushions here, this original miliatary army cot from the 1940's is similar (and fab).

More bohemian homes include a Swedish fashion photographer's summer retreat, a Mexican house high up on a hill and the home of a Melbourne florist.

A side note before I shoot off: for all North American friends on here - I got word that one of my favourite Danish brands Hay is now available in your neck of the woods - via the wonderful shop Blackthumb. Hooray!

Have a lovely day!

Friday Feels: Tour Mary's Charming and Relaxed Family Home

Sometimes I look through interior magazines and think 'this is wonderful, but there's no way I could ever achieve this' - do you sometimes feel like that too? I think that's why, over here on My Scandinavian Home, I always try to share homes which will inspire as many as possible. Cue: Mary's charming home! Mary lives in an apartment in Halle, Germany with her husband, two sons and two cats.  During the day Mary works as a social worker, helping children with autism (a job she loves) and in her spare time she's passionate about creating a beautiful, relaxed home for her and her family. The living space combines a blend of pieces from ikea, vintage finds, new nordic design and handmade items while books, art and plants contribute to the wonderful lived-in vibe.

""I love to surround myself with Scandinavian design and handmade things. Right now, I like beige tones in combination with white, black and wood. I am also passionate about collecting vases and love flower arranging" - Mary.

Fabulous spotty vase by Gothenburg based Elin Frodig.

Not only did I LOVE this tour (feeling all the Friday feels!), I was also excited to discover works by Swedish artists Elin Frodig and Kristina Haataja! - true inspiration for the weekend!

Did you find this home inspiring too? Is there anything that stood out to you in particular?

In case you're in the mood for other homes with a bohemian touch, here are a few of my faves:

Right guys. That's it from me this week. This girl is checking out for the weekend! Woohooooo!

I hope you've got some fabulous plans lined up!

See you Monday friends!

A Family Home where Nordic meets Bohemian Style

Hej heej! How are you today? I'm on a mini road trip with my friend Linda to the beautiful Gothenburg archipelago on Sweden's West coast. I've never been in the winter before and I'm really curious to see what it's like - plus I'm a girl on a mission (to be revealed later over on Instagram stories!). Since I'm feeling kind of relaxed today (and relieved to have got through my twelve BBC live radio shows yesterday - yes twelve!), I thought I'd share the vibe here on the blog with this lovely house in Maplewood, New Jersey belonging to Tanya Meda of @houseofsixinteriors. I caught up with her to find out a little more about her home.  Pour yourself a coffee (or a cheeky glass depending on what time it is where you are), put your feet up and enjoy - there's so much to look at!

Who do you share your home with?
My husband Carlos and 4 kids - Dylan, Emerson, Beckett & Peyton.

How did you come up with the name @houseofsixinteriors for your instagram feed?
From the very beginning, my family has always been my inspiration. My goal is to create spaces that are family friendly but don't skimp on style.

Tell me about your style?
I would describe it as Nordic meets bohemian.

What is the most important thing to you when it comes to decorating?
My goal is to create a space that's cosy and inviting. I try to do this using textiles, plants and art.

What do you love most about your home?
Honestly, I love that our family was created here. Carlos and I bought this home when it was just the 2 of us and we filled up the rooms quickly and happily. I have such as emotional attachment to our home... it's more than just a house for us.

How would you describe the atmosphere in your home?
I think that the love we share comes through as soon as you walk in, creating a warm and welcoming home. At least, I hope that's what everyone feels when they walk in!

I can well imagine that warm and welcoming feeling just by looking at the pictures, how about you?

Here's a very quick guide on where to find some of the pieces: Maroc tribal sells beautiful beni ourain and vintage kilim rugs, macrame wall hanging, peacock chair, sputnik chandelier - check out the tags on @houseofsixinteriors if you're looking for something specific.

Thank you so much for inviting us into your home Tanya (& Co!).

If you'd like to see more of Tanya's feed it's well worth checking out her daily feed! And there's also this archive (packed with 'bohemian style' homes) to work your way through too!
Have a lovely day / evening!

A cosy modern bohemian home

Tjoohoo! It's a hive of activity at home today as we're getting ready for a little summer break - eeeeee! I find it hard to feel super excited until I'm actually on route these days (there's so much to do!). Do you find that?!  I'll be taking a couple of weeks blogging break (shock horror! - that sounds like ages and I'm going to miss you guys, but I've been working like crazy with photo shoots and finishing my third book (exciting!) so I'm in need of a little R&R, plus I think my family have forgotten who I am!). But before I head off, I thought I'd leave with you the most inspiring home - with LOTS of ideas around every corner! This lovely space belongs to Megan Schlachtenhaufen, purveyor of fab, custom made wall hangings (hop on over to Instagram to check them out). Megan shares her home in Wisconsen, with her husband and two daughters and has furnished it with an eclectic mix of furniture, layers of texture, lovely art and punches of colour resulting in a relaxed modern bohemian style. Let's take a peek....

Photography: 13 and 14 by Clettis Wright. The rest by Megan Schlachtenhaufen.

Oh how I love this home. It makes me want to go out and hunt for paintings for my wall, rummage around flea markets for secondhand finds, invest in some kilim cushions and Moroccan blankets and generally max out on cosiness  - how about you?!

Get the look from Megan's home: bertoia side chair, source beautiful kilim cushions here, pick up a blanket with pom poms / tassels here, leather pouf / ottoman, mantis ceiling light, this is a great shop for rugs. Baskets, Atollo gold table lamp. Pick up custom-made wall hangings by Megan here. The large wall hanging in the living room is by The Dharma Door.

You can also see more pictures of this home and an interview with Megan over at The Glitter Guide

If you need a little escape on your morning coffee break, here are some of my all time favourite archives for you to check-out while I'm away (although you might need to set-aside an entire morning or two!):

A round-up of Swedish homes
Inspiring Danish homes
My pick of Norwegian homes
Who doesn't love a Finnish home?!
Relaxed and laidback summer cottages
International Home tours
Beautiful, relaxed bohemian style homes.

Or if you'd like to go offline - there's always my book The Scandinavian Home: Interiors inspired by light too! Best enjoyed with a coffee....or espresso martini (depending on the time of day!). I hope you enjoy it!

Have a lovely couple of weeks!

PS Catch you on Instagram in the meantime...

Step inside Jennifer Harrison's bohemian style home

Hej hej och gott nytt år (happy new year!). I took a little bit of a longer break this year (I've found that when it comes to having your own business you've got to seize those quiet moments (plus it's a little easier when the boss is yours truly (the conversation goes something like: me - "Is it OK to take two weeks off" me: "Only two weeks?" I hope you had a nice break too? After new year we nipped to Norway for a few days skiing (aaaah, I'm so in love with that country, I can't even begin to tell you), and now feeling rested, invigorated and ready to go again (although oh so slow!). I thought I'd kick off the year with an inspiring home tour with a boho twist. The space is kind of apt as I reckon 2018 is going to be a lot about mixing in second hand, vintage and antique finds (more than ever).  This beautiful Cleveland, Ohio space belongs to Jennifer Harrison of Flea Market Fab fame. Jen describes her style as 'relaxed, curated and one that doesn't follow the 'design rules' and is a master at sourcing recycled finds which she combines to create a unique and cosy home (as well as to sell through her lovely shop). Let's step inside Jen's world.....

Aaaaah, I love this space. What I'd give to be able to live somewhere warm enough to warrant a porch / veranda like Jen's - how about you? Or perhaps you have one too?

And how fabulous is the vintage runner on the stairs? Apparently it was inspired by this picture (beautiful!).

Is there anything you love in particular about Jen's home?

If you're loving this vibe - you can pick up beautiful Moroccan style rugs and poufs in her shop - and source other pieces here:

Living room - pendant lamp from Bisquecoffee table - West Elm, this striped linen (sold by the metre) is similar. Dining areaTulip table (I love this one with the brass base too!), black sheepskin throwSecond living room - sofa from Arhaus, Togo armchair. Source an industrial style cabinet here (this one is very similar). Porch - cushions from INDIEbungalow, I like this rattan coffee table.

Loving the boho style? You might also want to take a peek at this cosy, modern bohemian space,  the lovely home of Madewell's lead designer and a warm and inviting Danish home.

Have a great start to the week - it's great to be back!
